Park City, Utah — While Drew Brees may not be the greatest quarterback of all time, he may be a better skier than Tom Brady.
The Super Bowl-winning and inevitable Hall of Fame quarterback has been recently sending it on slopes across the Western United States. First on the agenda was skiing in Montana, where he shredded with his buddy Luke Bryan.
After skiing through the deep powder, Drew Brees’ family headed down to Utah to ski at the recently expanded Deer Valley Resort. This past weekend, Drew filmed his family skiing down the Green Monster trail on a sunny day in Park City.
The Green Monster trail is one of the new pistes that opened this winter. Part of the first phase of the Expanded Excellence expansion, Green Monster connects the peak of Bald Mountain to the Deer Valley East Village. The 4.85 mile trail took the mantle for the longest ski run in the state of Utah this season, with a longer length than the Home Run piste at Park City Mountain Resort. That Park City run has a length of 3.5 miles.
According to the Salt Lake Tribune, the name doesn’t come from a ballpark feature in Boston. The name comes from a mine that used to exist in Park City. Operating from 1900 to 1953, it featured malachite (type of copper) that ran down a cliff next to the mine. With malachite being a green mineral, it inspired that green monster nickname before Fenway Park existed. Sorry, Wally.
Ultimately, many of the new trail names come from old mining claims in the Park City area. You can learn more about the Deer Valley trail naming process by checking out this article from the Salt Lake Tribune.
