A portion of Canada’s Glacier National Park is closed after an individual entered the Macdonald West Winter Prohibited Area. As of February 13, 2025, part of the West Rogers Winter Restricted Area has been closed.

As the National Park explains, most backcountry users in the park have been compliant with and supportive of the Winter Permit System, acting as ambassadors and ensuring that those new to the area understand the system.

Unfortunately those few who enter Winter Prohibited Areas and closed Winter Restricted Areas, or those who enter Winter Restricted Areas without the necessary permits, put the Winter Permit System at risk.

The closed section of West Rogers Restricted Area will remain closed until further notice.
