An overdue skier was found dead in a wooded area near the Mary Jane Ski Run at Winter Park Resort late last month.

The Fraser Winter Park Police Department was first notified of a missing skier around 4:48pm on January 26, 2025. A woman had called the police after her boyfriend had failed to show up to take the Ski Train back to Denver. She informed officers that she had last had contact with her boyfriend around 12:30pm that day.

Numerous Winter Park Ski Patrollers responded to conduct a ground search following an emergency phone ping, but the first search was unsuccessful. The missing skier was found following a second, more detailed phone ping.

The skier was located partially buried in the snow in the trees adjacent to the Mary Jane ski run. Patrollers attempted to resuscitate him, but were ultimately unsuccessful. He was pronounced deceased at approximately 7:53pm.

The skier’s identity and the official cause and manner of death have yet to be released. The Grand County Coroner’s Office will be responsible for releasing that information.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased at this time, in addition to anyone involved in the incident.
