There are plenty of ways a “winter triathlon” could be hosted. They can be run as a regular triathlon, just in the winter, or the sports could be swapped around a bit. Maybe the biking could be switched out for fat tire bikes, maybe the swim could be swapped out for a ski. There are endless options, but Ottawa’s Winterlude Triathlon wins the title for the most Canadian.

The Winterlude Triathlon has been run as a part of the annual Winterlude Festival since 1984, asking competitors to race in skating, running, and cross-country skiing. It already took place this year, but next year the triathlon will go down on Sunday, February 1.

Racers skate 8 kilometers (~5 miles) on the Rideau Canal, run a 5k from Dow’s Lake to the Terry Fox Facility, and finish with a 6 kilometer (~3.8 miles) ski at Mooney’s Bay. The race can be done solo or as a relay team.
