A view of the snow at Cloudmont from a prior ski season.

Mentone, Alabama — The most mysterious ski resort in the United States is probably Cloudmont Ski & Golf Resort.

Located near the Alabama-Georgia border, Cloudmont is unique due to its geographical location. Its operating schedule has also been inconsistent over the years. The only updates come from its Facebook page, where they come either to announce that they won’t operate for the season or that they’re making snow. Cloudmont’s website still states that it’s closed as a COVID-19 safety precaution.

Last ski season at Cloudmont was canceled after the owner announced it wouldn’t open due to a family member being ill. So, it appeared that the future of this place looked bleak.

However, skiing in Bama could be making a comeback. With it being a cold start to January in the South, it’s allowed for prime snowmaking temperatures. In a Facebook post from today, Cloudmont said that it’s aiming to open for the ski season by Friday evening.

So you’re telling me there’s a chance…
