Camden, Maine — After a great start to the holiday week, New England’s ski industry has come back down to earth.
The past week has brought snow and cold temperatures to New England, but warm and wet weather over the weekend has put a damper on skiing conditions going into the new year. The result is a few ski areas in New England to take a timeout for a day… or four.
On Sunday, the Camden Snow Bowl announced that it would be closed today, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week because of the rain. This move allows them to have the slopes properly drain out the rain, helping them preserve some of the snow. The timing is admittedly rough, as this obviously coincides with the Christmas-New Year holiday period.
Other examples of Maine ski areas not operating today include BigRock, Big Moose, Black Mountain of Maine, and Mt. Abram.
While the weather for the next few days is frightful for New England ski areas, there is reportedly the possibility of snow later this week.
