Incredible footage from Helmcken Falls located in British Columbia’s Wells Gray Provincial Park where iceclimber Klemen Premrl performed an exciting bit of maintenance while ascending a route called Interstellar Spice.
Helmcken Falls is the 4th highest waterfall in Canada measuring 462 feet. Helmcken Falls itself doesn’t freeze in the winter but the spray from the Murtle River clings to the nearby rocks to create a zone with some of the most difficult ice and mixed routes in the world.
It’s up to the individual iceclimber to determine which sections should be climbed and which pose a danger and should be “cleared out.” Its obvious this massive icicle was on the brink of falling away and all it took was a well placed kick to send it crashing to the valley floor.
