Missoula, Montana – Yesterday, the latest noteworthy chairlift incident occurred at the Montana Snowbowl.
On Sunday, a chair fell off the Lavelle lift at the Montana Snowbowl. The Montana Snowbowl told KPAX that “an empty chair collided with a lift operator causing it to swing excessively and become dislodged from the line. No one was injured.” Lift mechanics assessed the lift, determining it was safe to ride, and then reopened the lift. The Lavelle Chairlift operated without issue for the rest of the day.
The Montana Snowbowl publically acknowledged the incident Sunday night, stating that no injuries occurred.
This isn’t the first chairlift incident at the Montana Snowbowl. Various incidents over years made the US Forest Service request that the Montana Snowbowl make various improvements to its lifts in the summer of 2023. Montana Snowbowl made those corrections, receiving US Forest Service approval to operate for the 2023-24 season.
