The International Ski & Snowboard Federation (FIS) has announced the date and location for the inaugural Freeride World Championships, with a weather window running from February 1–6, 2026 in Andorra. The competition will take place at the Ordino Arcalís, an area in the Pyrenees known for its challenging freeride terrain.
Every athlete in each competition Ski Men, Ski Women, Snowboard Men, and Snowboard Women, will be given one run to earn the World Champion title. A total of 67 athletes will compete, earning their spot through the FWT Pro, FWT Challenger, FWT Qualifier and FWT Junior series, in addition to considering national quotas.
Athletes will qualify through multiple different categories. Their FWT Pro Ranking will earn them a spot based on their ranking at the end of the 2025 season. The highest-ranked athlete from each of five regions (Europe, Asia, North America, South America, and Oceania) on the Qualifying Global Seeding List will also earn a spot. Each National Ski Association (NSA) will be able to fill spots as well, assuming they have limited or no athletes already qualified. Wildcards and host national wildcards will also be allocated.
The entire world championship will take place over one day, with every athlete getting one run to prove their skills. Their runs will be judged on line choice, control, fluidity, technique, and air & style.
