Skiing and the state of Iowa probably don’t appear hand-in-hand in your mind, but the Midwest state has a few ski hills here and there. In 1969, the Fun Valley Ski Area, not to be confused with Colorado’s now defunct “Fun Valley” that closed in the 70s, opened its doors with one rope tow. At its peak, the mountain featured three chairlifts and three rope tows. KCCI8 Des Moines took a trip to the small area back in 1991, before it would eventually close for good.
Fun Valley honestly looks like it would have been a blast. Small, yes, but with plenty of options for a fun day on the snow. Especially for those trying to learn how to ski or trying to get better at skiing, or for those training for a big trip.
