Coming back from a traumatic moment or injury is incredibly difficult, no matter the sport or activity. That’s no different when it comes to avalanches in the backcountry. Sanne Mona was in a transition from competitive mogul skiing to competitive freeride skiing when she was caught in an avalanche near Engelberg, Switzerland. Though the concept of leaving skiing never even occurred to her, the anxiety and stress that came from the slopes was hard to ignore. Rather than quitting, she sought to learn more about the mountains, giving her the ability to make her own decisions while out in the backcountry.

Once a rising star in the world of skiing, Sanne’s world instantly changed when she was caught in an avalanche, taking away all of the joy she once found in the sport. But Sanne did not stop. In the first episode of our Mountain of Angels series, watch as she confronts her fears and rediscovers the freedom of skiing with a new perspective in Engelberg, Switzerland.
