Red Bull Rampage 2001.

The men’s Red Bull Rampage is today, October 12, bringing the best freeride mountain bikers together for several hours of wild riding. On Thursday, the competition grew with the first ever women’s Red Bull Rampage (it was epic). But back in 2001 Red Bull Rampage was a brand new concept. The mountains outside Virgin, Utah were untouched by freeride mountain bike competition and an idea of what it might turn into was non-existent. Yet some crazy riders were able to make history.

In 2001, Red Bull Rampage arrived. It transformed and legitimized the world of freeride mountain biking. The pioneers of the sport took the freeriding style they developed — in areas like Canada’s west coast — to the mountains outside Virgin, Utah, and competed for the first time on a raw, undeveloped, steep section of desert without trails or infrastructure.

The men’s Red Bull Rampage starts today, October 12, at 12:00pm ET/9:00am PT. You can tune in to catch the action on ESPN+ in the United States or on Red Bull TV in any other country. Don’t miss it, it’s going to be wild.
