Max Hitzig after his unbelievable backflip at the Freeride World Tour.

At the 2023 Freeride World Tour stop in Kicking Horse, Max Hitzig (20 years old at the time) through down one of the largest backflips we’ve ever seen in competition. It was wild, and it earned him first place in the competition. We’ve seen plenty of angles of the backflip in the past, but we haven’t actually seen the crowd’s reaction to the wild trick. Not all that surprising to learn that the crowd absolutely lost it.

The 2025 FIS Freeride World Tour is set to kick off at the Baqueira Beret Pro in Spain between January 18 and 23. From there, the tour moves to Val Thorens in France, then back to Kicking Horse in British Columbia, then to Georgia, Austria, and closing off the season in Switzerland. Let’s hope we get more insane tricks like Max Hitzig’s unbelievable backflip!
