YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyoming – Yellowstone National Park is is reporting a 5% increase in recreation visits so far from 2023 to 2024. Through September in 2024, the park has seen 4,349,689 recreation visits compared to 4,147,382 recreation visits by the same point in 2023.
Compared to 2021, year-to-date recreation visits are down 3%, with 4,472,687 visits at this point three years ago. 2024 September visits are up 2% from 2023, with 852,435 recreation visits this year compared to 838,458 recreational visits last year, but this September has seen a 3% decrease from 2021, when 882,078 recreation visits took place in September.
2021 is the busiest year for Yellowstone National Park on record, seeing a total of 4,860,242 recreation visits throughout the entire year. 2023 is the second busiest year on record with 4,501,382 recreation visits, slightly more than 150,000 recreation visits than what 2024 has seen up to this point.
2021 saw 387,555 recreation visits between October and the end of the year, while 2023 saw 354,000 in the same period. 2022 was on track to be a big year in the National Park, but historic flooding left the park closed for a period in June and limited the number of entrances through the rest of the year. That year concluded with just 3,290,242 recreation visits.
