OAKLAND COUNTY, Michigan – Mt. Holly ski area in Southeast Michigan is a fairly small ski area, offering just a 350-foot vertical drop with around 20 total trails. But with a location less than an hour outside Detroit, it brings in some proper crowds.
This summer the ski area has been working on a new chairlift, the High-Speed Leitner-Poma Quad Chairlift “Lightning Express”, making them the only ski area in Southeast Michigan with two high-speed chairlifts.
The “Lightning Express” replaces Mt. Holly’s Chair 6, a lift that’s been in operation since 1975. While there aren’t a ton of specific details available on the progress on the lift, images and videos show that it’s pretty close to completion and a recent X (formerly Twitter) post states that it will be open for the upcoming season.
