MARS HILL, Maine – Maine’s BigRock Mountain, a ski area just a few miles from the Canadian border, has had a pretty major off season. The mountain is getting a new 3,450 foot long chairlift and major snowmaking upgrades, and progress is moving along well.
The 3,450 foot long chairlift from Doppelamyr Alpenstar will have a vertical rise of 932 feet, moving 450 feet per minute with a ride time of around eight minutes and carrying 1800 people per hour. On Tuesday of this week, the bottom terminal and bullwheel were set. Over the next several days, the lift’s terminal structure will be erected, the cable will be spliced, the chairs will be hung, and everything will be wired up. All in time for the start of the 2024/25 winter season.
On the snowmaking side of things, BigRock received 6 new TechnoAlpin TR10 Fan Guns, allowing the area to quadruple their snowmaking output alongside their snowmaking pump upgrades. Work on the pump house, including more equipment, continues at this point.
Season passes for BigRock Mountain are currently on sale, costing just $380 for first timers. Or you can buy a 4-person family pack for $1,490. BigRock Mountain is also featured on the Indy Pass.
