USA – Are you looking to plan a ski trip to a place without extensive lift lines? Are you looking to ski someplace and leave with some money in your wallet? Are you looking to ski some powder? If you answered yes to all three of these questions, the Washington Post has six ski resorts that you should consider.
This week, Elisabeth Vincentelli of the Washington Post revealed their picks for the “6 ski resorts with smaller crowds, lower prices and better snow.” Another key distinction is that these mountains aren’t part of the big three for multi-mountain passes in the U.S.
Here are the six picks:
- 1. Sugar Bowl, California
- 2. Mt. Rose, Nevada
- 3. Grand Targhee, Wyoming
- 4. Sundance, Utah
- 5. Bridger Bowl, Montana
- 6. Gore Mountain, New York
Overall, this is a solid list. I visited Targhee last winter, and it features small crowds and quality snow. Mt. Rose and Sugar Bowl are two places in the Tahoe region that aren’t discussed enough, much to the benefit the skiers and riders who go there (don’t worry, folks; we’ll keep posting about Palisades Tahoe instead). We’ve been posting much more about Sundance lately, as they’re making themselves a destination resort. So, five of these picks are really good.
However, I still have my disagreements. I like Gore, and it’s worth visiting this winter due to its new chairlift coming to the North Creek Ski Bowl, but there are places with better snow quality in the Northeast. I would’ve gone with Saddleback, Snow Ridge, or Jay Peak for the Northeast’s pick. In addition, while these six ski resorts have lower prices than what Deer Valley or Vail will cost this winter, they’re still pretty expensive.
