MT. BALDY, California – The ski area and infrastructure of Mt. Baldy Resort in California went unaffected by the Bridge Fire that burned through the area just a few days ago. However, it remains unclear how long the resort will stay closed, taking a major chunk out of potential fall revenue.
For winter operations to kick off in a timely manner, Mt. Baldy relies on revenue from summer and fall operations. The resort was closed for nearly a month earlier this year due to the Vista Fire. That, combined with this recent closure, means the mountain will likely see its off-season revenue cut in half compared to previous years.
As firefighters continue to work to control the burn, Community members are expected to be able to return soon. But 20 homes in the village were lost to the fire, and the ski area is looking to help those people out.
The resort website provides a few options to support both the mountain and the residents in the area. 100% of donations (minus credit card fees) will be given to the Mt. Baldy Village Church for distribution to victims of the fire. Additionally, an unlimited number of 50% off season passes to the mountain ($399 for adults) will be sold throughout the coming week, with revenue helping the resort recover and prepare for this winter. The ski area is also encouraging those hoping to make a trip this winter to e-gift cards to both the Mt. Baldy Lodge and the Mt. Baldy Ski Lifts.
