Nevada — A wildfire is uncomfortably close to two Nevada ski areas.

Starting Saturday afternoon around the Davis Creek Regional Park, the Davis Fire has spread more than 5,596 acres and is uncontained. The wildfire is located in Washoe Valley, south of Reno. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

According to an email to employees from Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe, the wildfire was within a mile of the Eastern Boundary on Monday night. Mike Pierce, who’s Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe’s marketing director, issued the following statement to Ski Area Management:

“Mt. Rose – Ski Tahoe is taking precautionary measures to mitigate damages should the Davis Fire reach the ski area property. Key assets are being repositioned, and sprinklers are in place around the base lodges…Special thanks to all agencies working diligently to fight this fire and protect everyone affected…”

Sprinklers were on Monday at Mt. Rose- Ski Tahoe’s main base area.

Sky Tavern is also at risk of the wildfire. Due to the proximity of the flames, Sky Tavern announced on Monday that it would be closed until further notice. As of Tuesday morning, it appears that the flames have not reached inside the skiable boundary.

We’ll keep you posted regarding the latest on the Davis Fire.
