GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Arizona – The body of a 71-year-old male was discovered near river mile 63.5 of the Colorado River in Grand Canyon National Park on Tuesday.

According to the National Park Service (NPS), the man was first reported missing at around 9:15pm on Monday, September 10. The report came into the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center, alerting of a missing boater near Lower Nankoweap Camp along the river.

The National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner are conducting an investigation into the incident.” – NPS

No other information on this incident has been made available at this time.

Just yesterday it was reported that a 59-year-old from Colorado passed along the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon on his 10th day of a non-commercial river trip. According to the AP, the 59-year-old was the seventh person to die in the canyon since July 31 of this year. 11 fatalities were reported in the canyon throughout 2023, with an average of 10-15 occurring per year.
