Snow at Jay Peak.
Snow at Jay Peak.

JAY, Vermont – Is it really happening? Is ski season really almost here? Not really, no. But snow is starting to fall, and that’s good enough news for us. Jay Peak, located in Jay, Vermont, shared some clips of a few snowflakes falling to the ground yesterday, September 8.

This was not much more than a light dusting, with little to no snow actually sticking, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t exciting. They’re not the only resort to see snow in the east, either. Whiteface in New York actually had some snow stick to the ground near their summit.

A good omen for future snowmen. Catch our first snow sightings of the season near the summit on Sunday, September 8th.

The video was captured by Jay Peak Ski Patroller Scott Shear, and shared to the world through Jay Peak’s multiple social media pages. Nothing wrong with a little dusting of snow pre-season hype!

Jay Peak’s opening date hasn’t been officially announced quite yet, but mid-November is typically when their lifts start spinning. They had a pretty decent amount of snowfall last season, with 359 inches touching down, but that was nothing compared to 2018/19’s 423 inches, or 2016/17’s 491 inches. Could this early September snowfall be a sign of what’s to come, or am I jinxing it?
