WINTER PARK, Colorado – A mushroom hunter contacted law enforcement after locating what he believed was a human skull while foraging in a heavily wooden area between US Highway 40 and  Mary Jane Road in Winter Park, Colorado. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is currently seeking assistance from the public in identifying remains discovered on August 17.
The Fraser Winter Park Police Department, United States Forest Service, the Grand County Coroner’s Office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation sent personnel to the scene, recovering the skull and other bones found in the area. A wider search was conducted by Grand County Search & Rescue, but no other remains were found.
“Based on evidence at the scene, it appears that the remains had been in that location for a significant period, and possibly many years. Â No identifying information or clothing was found at the scene. Â The remains will be transferred to a forensic anthropologist who will attempt to determine the sex, race, and general age of the deceased, as well as a general idea of how long the victim had been deceased.” – Colorado Bureau of Investigation
