Freeride World Tour qualifiers in Australia.

MOUNT HOTHAM, Australia – Mt Hotham ski resort recently hosted Australia’s first Freeride World Tour events, putting together a 1-star Freeride World Tour Qualifier and a 1-star Freeride World Tour Junior for both skiing and snowboarding on August 3.

What a weekend! The freeride mecca of Australia lived up to its reputation, with Hotham hosting Australia’s first ever Freeride World Tour events over the weekend.

It’s amazing as always to see the sport continuing to grow across the world, whether that’s in the form of pro events or qualifying events. Maybe someday we could see a pro exhibition contest or something like that in Australia. Bring all the professionals from the northern hemisphere down south just so we don’t have to go all summer without seeing the best of the best.

“Freeride contests are about celebrating terrain features in their natural form, there’s a start gate at the summit and a finish gate at the bottom – best run down win. It’s the ultimate expression of all that is fun and liberating about sliding on snow in wintertime and we can’t wait to see the best freeriders in Australasia take on Hotham’s legendary runs.” – FWT Head of Sports Development Benjamin Calmel, before the event took place.
