PORTILLO, Chile – As I sit here in the near 100°F temperatures of Denver, I find myself thinking of the South American ski season. There, it’s cold and white, and, for Ski Portillo in Chile, early August has delivered some epic conditions.
On August 3, the South American ski resort had received 39cm (~15.3 inches) in just 24 hours, bringing the snow total from the entire storm up to 64cm (25 inches). With that snow included, Ski Portillo has reached a total season snowfall of 637cm (~250.7 inches), and has a current base depth of 136cm (~53.5 inches).
They’ve still got plenty of ski season left, too. The slopes at Ski Portillo don’t close until September 28, plenty of time for more snow to hit the ground and create even more epic powder days.
Ski Portillo is an all-inclusive ski resort, meaning your hotel stay includes ski passes, three meals a day (plus tea), daycare for 4-7 year olds, and access to the resort’s jacuzzi, heated pool, sauna, fitness center, full gymnasium, rock climbing wall, cinema, piano bar, disco, and so much more. Stays are offered in ski weeks (7 nights) or mini ski weeks (4 nights).
