Fischer and the Bob
Fischer and the Bob

MONTANA – Freddy Lowry of FAE Productions put together a little documentary covering the week he spent as a volunteer ranger in Montana’s Bob Marshall Wilderness. Many of us have dreamt of being rangers in the United States, but Lowry isn’t from North America, so it’s very interesting to see his perspective on the job and lifestyle.

I spent one week as a volunteer wilderness ranger in the Bob Marshall Wilderness with my friend Fischer who is a full time wilderness Ranger. Over the week we hiked 30 miles into the Bob to Big Prairie Rangers Station and had a few bear encounters along the way. We spent the last three days floating down the river checking on the camps all the ways back to Spotted Bear Rangers Station. This was one of the best experiences I had while travelling around the world the past two years and would highly recommend visiting some national parks if you’re in America.”

The Bob Marshall Wilderness is joined by the Scapegoat Wilderness and the Great Bear Wilderness in making up the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex, an area that makes up more than 1.5 million acres. It’s mostly managed by the Flathead National Forest, and sits as the third largest wilderness complex in the lower 48 United States. The three wilderness areas include five ranger districts, Spotted Bear, Hungry Horse, Lincoln, Rocky Mountain, and Seeley Lake.
