MT HUTT, New Zealand – New Zealand’s Mt Hutt Ski Area saw some major snow over the past few days, with all lifts and all terrain being open on August 1. What started as 25cm (~10″) by 1pm on July 30 quickly grew into 75cm, and, by the time the lifts were moving again, Mt Hutt had seen 83cm (~32″) in just 24 hours. Truly an epic dump.
Thursday’s ski day at Mt Hutt has come to an end, but tomorrow, August 2, is sure to be just as epic. The mountain currently has a base of 60-110cm (~23.6″-43.3″), after a total season snowfall of 153cm (60.2″). And their season is just getting going, with closing dates not popping up until October.
Important to note if you happen to be traveling to Mt Hutt in the next few days: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will be carpool priority days. Those with full cars (2 people for a two door, 4 people for a four door) are given priority to park in the base area parking lot, while those with less-than-full cars are asked to park in a lower lot and take the shuttles to the mountain.
A one day super pass to Mt Hutt currently runs for $165, while an afternoon pass, which allows access from 12:30pm to 4pm, runs for $120.
