There’s a saying often tossed around boardrooms that uses the metaphor “building the plane while flying it” to describe a management style where flexibility and agility are prioritized over traditional planning. As you can imagine, the figure of speech conjures high risk strategies where quick thinking and improvisation are crucial to success.
15-year-old ultra-light airplane pilot Alina Scott wasn’t intending to build a plane while flying it when she took off but she did have to quickly access a situation and act accordingly when a bolt hit fell off her flap motor and hit her in the face mid-flight.
Her reaction was much the same as when you put together IKEA furniture and realize you have one screw at the end that and you don’t know where its supposed to go. Alina simply shrugged her shoulders, had a laugh and headed back to the airstrip.
