TAHITI – Unlike every other sport in the Olympics this summer, surfing will not be hosted in France. It won’t even be hosted in Europe. Instead, it’ll be hosted thousands of miles away in Tahiti, on the remarkable Teahupo’o wave. Teahupo’o frequently hosts the World Surf Championship Tour, and it will continue to do so after the Olympics. Rather than making a permanent mark on the land for the summer games, Paris 2024 organizers have chosen to build modular homes and temporary structures for the event. Hopefully the surfing in the upcoming Olympics will be a bit more exciting than the last summer Olympics (no shade Tokyo 2020, those waves just weren’t looking all that great). It should be a great event to watch. Surfing kicks off at 1pm ET on July 27.
