AUSTRALIA – Australian adventurer, filmmaker, author, and dad Michael Atkinson found himself a bit shocked by the day ticket prices at his favorite ski resort, Perisher in Australia. He says he paid $249 AU (~$168 US) for an adult pass, double the price of what it cost in 1990 with inflation considered (they would cost around $118 AU today).

Twice the money to ski (inflation adjusted). Perisher Resort is my fav resort btw. Been coming since I was a kid and I used to work here. Times are changing though. I don’t see my kids being able to afford coming here with their kids if they have them. It cost $634 for two kids and myself for the day (lift pass only). That’s $249 x 2 (because 15 is considered an adult) + $136 (child of 14).

Skiing has always been a fairly expensive sport, but it’s certainly gotten a whole lot worse over the past several years. I mean, $168 USD for a day pass is nowhere near the worst you’ll see here in the United States. Like with any resort, Perisher offers discounts on tickets if bought ahead of time, but they’re still mostly above $200 AU.
