ISLE AU HAUT, Maine – Some people live for the cities, some people live for the small town life, and some people live for the tiny town life. The residents of Maine’s small island communities fall into the third group. This family, who previously lived in central Massachusetts and had very little experience with the ocean (the father had literally never been in the ocean) took a gamble when they saw an advertisement searching for new residents of Isle au Haut off the coast of Maine, and now they say they’ll never leave.

A young family was met with raised eyebrows when they shared plans they would be moving to a remote island way off the coast of Maine. Steve Hartman goes “On the Road” to learn what led them there, and how they found happiness off the beaten path.
