The hair was long, the jeans were bellbottomed and the hills of Malibu were buzzing with enthusiastic grass skiers. The following video is a news segment from 1979 covering grass skiing at Pepperdine University, “a new sport that is really rolling along.” If you think grass skiing only lives on as distant memory to be appreciated on obscure YouTube videos you are wrong. It is a thriving sport in Czechia and where they still have races for the top athletes in the sport. If you’d like a pick up a pair of grass skis you can get an entry level model for around $350. They are compatible with regular ski boots so all you have to do is click in and do like Suzy Stern and “just kinda flow with it.” Love it!
