Killington, Vermont- The last ski resort open in New England isn’t a shocker. Killington Resort, which has been open since November 3rd, has been operating during weekends this month thanks to the Superstar Glacier. For those who don’t know, the mountain isn’t home to a literal glacier, as the Beast of the East blows a ginormous amount of man-made snow onto the Superstar trail, resulting in Killington being one of the last open ski resorts in the country. With spring showing signs of summer, it’s time to speculate about how long Killington can stay open for the 2023-24 season.

This weekend will see multiple sports available for guests. Skiing is the obvious one, with the Superstar Express spinning from Friday to Monday. Their golf course, which opened last weekend, is now open seven days a week. Killington’s mountain biking park will open on Friday, May 24, with trails being serviced by Snowshed. The trails off Ramshead are expected to open June 14, with daily operations beginning that day as well. Their Adventure Park, which features the mountain coaster, soaring eagle ride, zipline, ropes course, and hiking trails, will open on May 25th.

There are also two major events happening this weekend, with the Killington Stage Race from May 25-27 and the Total Archery Challenge  taking place at Pico from May 24-26th.

However, the warm weather means this could be the last call for skiing and riding. Killington has said that they want to go until June, but sometimes, Mother Nature doesn’t oblige.

This week, I’ve been monitoring the Superstar and Mountain View webcams. Multiple points of concern exist at this point, including the crossover between the lift and trail, some narrowing portions of Middle Superstar, and a lack of snow on the Upper Headwall. Killington covered up the crossover before last weekend’s operations, but dirt patches will keep emerging from this point forward.

The unfortunate news is that they’re in a warm weather stretch. Warm weather is expected today, with temperatures in the 80s today. Some rain could be in the forecast tonight as well, with temperatures getting a little bit cooler going into the weekend.

So if you want to get lift-serviced skiing in New England, this weekend may be your last shot for a while. If they do make it to June, prepare to do some walking or grass skiing.
