MONT BLANC, EuropeAn unidentified skier was struck by an avalanche below Punta Helbronner on the Mont Blanc massif on Monday, March 4. According to AostaSera, the man was swept over a cliff and eventually airlifted from the Skyway Pavilion station.

The 30-year-old man was able to dig himself out of the snow after the fall, making his way to the Pavillon station with the help of companions. The video, taken from a tram, shows the skier being swept over the cliff, with other skiers attempting to get away from the slide as it comes down. No deaths have been reported in relation to the slide.

Avalanches aren’t entirely uncommon on Mont Blanc, especially with much of the massif’s terrain existing off-piste. Earlier this year, two British skiers were killed in a slide that occurred around 7,545 feet.
