Six days ago, Mt. Timothy excited guests with a social media post that showed them starting to groom out the slopes. They teased that an opening day announcement was coming soon. Then the warm weather and reality set back in.
Yesterday, Mount Timothy announced that they won’t open this season. Factors for this season’s closure is due to an insufficient snowpack, warm weather, no snow in the forecast, and a delayed start to the season.
According to the Williams Lake Tribune, Mt. Timothy typically starts its season before or just after Christmas. The end of December saw abnormally warm weather in British Columbia, which kept Mt. Timothy closed. The past couple of weeks haven’t been much better, resulting in the lifts not spinning.
If you’re interested in still stopping by, they’ll have their restaurant open Thursdays to Sundays this winter from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For season passes, punch cards, and gift certificate holders, they’ll be refunded. With how unpredictable this winter has been, I wonder if we’ll be seeing this more often in the years ahead.
