Powder Mountain has made some waves over the last couple of months over the new ownership of the ski resort by former Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, and his plan to make it a semi-private ski resort.
To create some transparency about the situation, General Manager Kevin Mitchell answered some questions from guests as part of a new video series called Chairlift Chatter. The video discusses the new semi-private plan, the new chairlifts coming during the 2024-25 season, and the future of Powder Keg.
One of the interesting tidbits is that they’re planning to recycle one of their old lifts, presumably referring to the Paradise chairlift. A lot of people in the comments section want to see Powder sell the chairlift to its neighbor, Nordic Valley, which is struggling immensely at the moment.
Change is hard, and I understand the local’s frustration. I am hopeful that Reed and the leadership team at Powder Mountain will take in guests’ feedback during this experiment.
