Just 27 hours after an avalanche killed one person and hurt three others, a second avalanche has been reported at the Palisades Tahoe Ski Resort.
KCRA3 reports Palisades Tahoe officials confirmed an avalanche happened around 12:30 p.m. Thursday on the Alpine side of the resort near Wolverine Bowl. Thankfully there were no reports of anyone getting caught in the slide and crews concluded that no guests or employees were involved after an exhaustive search of the area.
Olympic Valley resident Craig Hamilton was skiing near Wolverine Bowl and saw the aftermath of the avalanche from the chairlift:
“I look over there, and I’m like, ‘What?’ There’s a massive avalanche debris slide right down the middle of the bowl that hadn’t been there the last lift ride up, the last run. We were just flabbergasted.”
Ski patrol swept the area with RECCO and beacon searches and went on to conduct a probe search which they enlisted guests to help with:
“They handed them out to us and lined us up in a row all the way across the debris field. If I was buried in that debris field, I would hope that anyone who could possibly get there would help.”
The chairlift near the second avalanche site reopened Thursday after officials cleared the area.
