“We are optimistic that FlyCart 30 will become a trusted solution for aerial delivery, solving complex terrain and terminal transportation problems efficiently, economically, and most importantly, safely from the air.” –Christina Zhang, DJI Senior Director of Corporate Strategy

Leading drone manufacturer DJI has introduced its first aerial delivery drone to its enterprise lineup and it most definitely has potential applications to mountain rescue operations.

The FlyCart 30 has a max payload of 66lbs with a delivery range of around 10 miles and a max speed of 44mph. It has two configurations which includes a winch mode that makes dropping off on uneven terrain possible.

So here’s a scenario where this new bit of tech might come in handy for us mountain folk. An emergency situation arises in the backcountry and response times from rescue crews are slow due to terrain and conditions. Deploy one of these little flying delivery devices to provide necessary essentials (medical supplies/food/shelter) stabilize and hunker down until the cavalierly arrives. If operating one of these delivery drones is anything like the smaller DJI models, you don’t need to be an expert pilot. Could be an incredible resource for getting gear to folks who need it when stuff goes sideways.

Check out the video, its pretty impressive. Don’t be shocked if your first point of contact in mountain rescues of the future is a quadcopter. Very cool.
