“It’s terrible what happened. A family is decimated, and we are very sad in Saint-Gervais.” -Saint-Gervais Mayor Jean-Marc Peillex

Tragic news out of Europe where two British skiers were killed in an avalanche on an off-piste area at Saint-Gervais-les-Bains Ski Resort in France. AP News reports the pair were a 54-year-old mother and her 22-year-old son.

The avalanche occurred yesterday Thursday an off-piste area of the resort at an altitude of 7,545 feet. Dozens of mountain rescuers where dispatched to search for buried skiers. Ultimately rescuers found the mother and son who were deceased and were able to rescue 5 others.

An investigation was opened to establish the cause of the avalanche. Our thoughts go out the deceased family and friends.
