Yesterday, Mount Sunapee Resort celebrated a major milestone. The New Hampshire ski resort commemorated its 75th birthday on December 26th, 2023.
First opened back on December 26th, 1948, Mt. Sunapee was run by the State of New Hampshire throughout most of its history. Due to financial difficulties, the State decided to lease Mt. Sunapee to the Mueller family, who ran the nearby Okemo Mountain Resort. The Muellers modernized Sunapee, adding new lifts, trails, the Sunapee Lodge, and summer attractions. In 2018, the Muellers sold Mt. Sunapee and their two other resorts to Vail Resorts, which runs the mountain to this day.
Sunapee gave people free Crumbl cookies yesterday as part of their birthday celebration. In addition, Mt. Sunapee released a video where Peter Disch, who’s the General Manager of Mt. Sunapee, described what he loves about the New Hampshire ski resort.
Sunapee is my home mountain, so I have a particular fondness for this place. Sunapee has great groomed runs and some of the best views in the Northeast. Having a Waflle Cabin also helps me keep a highly positive opinion of the mountain.
Mount Sunapee opened for the season back on November 30th. Like most of the Northeast, they’ve had their share of freezes and thaws so far this ski season, but the trails are still holding up. I can confirm this, as I was able to get in some turns there on Christmas. The snow was soft, and the turns were mint. They currently have eighteen trails and six lifts open.
Happy birthday to Mt. Sunapee! Is it too late to ask Vail Resorts for a North Peak lift replacement as a birthday present?
