Back on June 1st, it was announced that the Alterra Mountain Company would be acquiring Schweitzer Resort in Idaho. Schweitzer was already an Ikon Pass partner, but it was unclear if the access would be expanded past the 7/5 days that they offered with the full and base passes.

We got our answer yesterday, as Alterra officially finalized the acquisition of Schweitzer. Ikon Passes now come with unlimited access to the Idaho ski resort, with base passes still having five days available to its buyers. For people who already purchased a Schweizer pass for the 2023-24 season, they’ll be honoring those purchases, and there will be no changes to the benefits. For those who purchased a Schweitzer season pass and want to upgrade to an Ikon Pass, Schweitzer is offering a refund and a discounted rate for the Ikon Pass.

Alterra’s first major project that they’ll be overseeing is the replacement of the Musical Chairs lift with a Leitner-Poma high-speed quad. In addition, a new run will be added. This is part of the Schweitzer Creek Village, giving Schweitzer a new base area and 1400 additional parking spaces. More lifts and beginner terrain will be added to this terrain pod in the future.

Schweitzer’s been on my bucket list for at least a year, and these new changes make me want to travel up there. I’m looking forward to seeing how Alterra invests in the Idaho ski resort that’s on the rise.
