Next winter, one of Massachusett’s best ski resorts will be adding its first-ever high-speed chairlift.

Back in March, New England Ski Industry reported that Berkshire East had submitted an application to Charlemont’s Planning Board to install a new high-speed quad chairlift. This application from the Massachusetts ski resort was accepted by Charlemont, and work on the project has commenced.

Berkshire East teaed the addition last week, showing one of the terminal parts being delivered to the ski resort. PLAY FREE BIRD!

On Saturday, Berkshire East hosted a concert from Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Reed Foehl. Before the concert, Jon Schaefer announced that they will be installing a detachable high-speed quad this summer.

The lift will start at the base of the Competition trail, and end around the summit. The new chairlift, which is supplied by Leitner-Poma, will travel 1000 feet per minute. The faster ride time will lead to increased laps for skiers and mountain bikers.

The 2024-25 season will also see a new chairlift and terrain expansion. The Thunder expansion, which previously received the permits for the town of Charlemont, will help space their guests out over at a new base area.

The new base area will be one mile east of the existing one. The Mountain Top Triple, which currently goes to the summit of Berkshire East, will be moved to service this new terrain pod. The new lift will end around the top of the Mohawk trail.
