One of Massachusett’s most historic ski resorts will see some major changes over the next two years. New England Ski Industry reports that Berkshire East has submitted an application to Charlemont’s Planning Board to install a new high-speed quad chairlift.

The lift would start at the base of the Competition trail, and end around the summit. The new Leitner-Poma chairlift has already been ordered, with a projected opening during the 2023-24 season.

During the 2024-25 season, they are aiming to open a major terrain expansion. The Thunder expansion, which previously received the permits for the town of Charlemont, will help space their guests out.

The base area will be one mile east of the existing base area. The Mountain Top Triple, which currently goes to the summit of Berkshire East, will be moved to service this new terrain pod. The new lift would end around the top of the Mohawk trail.
