I can’t overstate how important this project is to us and to our guests. It is the sum of all of its parts, it’s the lift, it’s the terrain, it’s the access to the ski resort.”Brian Norton, President and General Manager of Loon Mountain Resort.

Loon’s third chairlift in four years is taking shape. Yesterday, the New Hampshire ski resort gave its latest construction update on South Peak Expansion 2: Electric Boogaloo.

The new terrain pod will be serviced by a Doppelmayr Alpenstar 4-CLF chairlift with a loading conveyor. So far this offseason, Loon has installed the bottom terminal and the lift towers. The bullwheel has been installed at the top terminal, with the next steps at the top being backfill and the installation of the lift house.

The trail construction is nearing its final stages, which will involve grading and revegetation. Grading turns over the ground material and reorganizes to achieve the trail’s intended pitch. Revegation is where workers spread hay, seed, and mulch on the trails.

The terrain expansion will add beginner and intermediate terrain to South Peak. The thirty-acre expansion is pivotal for Loon, as it increases their beginner terrain by 50%. It also makes Loon all the more convenient, as it’s only located 1.5 miles from I-93.

Loon gave a video breakdown in its latest construction update, which you can watch below. The expansion is expected to open during the 2023-24 season.
