A historic season calls for Memorial Day weekend kiing. Dodge Ridge Mountain Resort in Pinecrest, California announced on Thursday that they will be reopening on Saturday, May 27th, for some more spring skiing. They will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 8 am-2 pm. Chair 5, a double chairlift that services intermediate, advanced, and expert terrain, will be operating. There will be a DJ, BBQ, Sports Shop Sale, Weigh Station Rail Garden, Bounce house, and other activities

Season passholders at Dodge Ridge from this season, or for next season, which includes the recently introduced Cali Pass, will be able to ski for free. If you don’t have a season pass, tickets will be $49 for people ages thirteen and older and $25 for kids.

This season was a record-breaking one for Dodge Ridge. According to the Union Democrat, they saw records in skier visitation and season duration. In terms of snowfall, they received 757 inches, which is over 63 feet of snow, and 230% above their average. They also groomed a record number of trails in one day (77). The snowfall allowed mountain operations to create new runs, which included the Hollywood Bowl.

Dodge Ridge was bought by Invision Capital and Karl Kapuscinski in 2021. Since then, Dodge Ridge has seen a lot of investment. A new mountain biking park opened in August of last year. A new triple chairlift opened back in November, which provides easier access to beginner terrain. As pointed out in the Storm Skiing Journal’s podcast episode with Karl Kapuscinski, who is the President and CEO of Mountain High Resorts, more investments are planned in the future.

I’m curious to see whether other California ski resorts could reopen for Memorial Day Weekend. Currently, the only ski resorts open in California are Donner Ski Ranch, Mammoth Mountain, and Palisades Tahoe.
