In spite of Loon wrapping up its season on April 16th, they remain hard at work on the South Peak expansion. In a construction update from last week, they detailed the work that has been done so far on the new chairlift.

Over the past couple of weeks, the pieces of the Doppelmayr Alpenstar quad chairlift have arrived. The fourteen lift towers are in the Escape Route parking lot and are ready for installation. The bull wheels have also arrived, and the cross-arms are on site and being assembled. The next step is flying the concrete into the foundations.

Work is also commencing on the snowmaking. The frost-free pipes are being strung together and positioned by the snowmaking team on the new South Peak trails.

The expansion, which will have 30+ acres of skiable terrain, will add beginner and intermediate runs to South Peak. Loon currently has a small number of easy runs, but this expansion will grow its beginner terrain by 50%. The area will also have fully automated snowmaking technology and frost-free pipes.

The new terrain pod is expected to open during the 2023-24 season.
