Those looking forward to seeing several upgraded lifts on the slope of Whistler Blackcomb next season might be a bit disappointed. The Vail owned ski resort recently announced that the new Jersey Cream lift upgrade has been delayed following labor and resource shortages at Doppelmayr.
“Unfortunately, our lift manufacturing and install partner, Doppelmayr, has informed us they cannot complete both Fitz and Jersey Cream Express this summer due to their labour and resource constraints. As a result, we will be pushing construction on Jersey to summer 2024, to be complete for the 2024/25 winter season, subject to regulatory approvals.” – Whistler Blackcomb
The upgrade planned for the Fitzsimmons Express lift, currently a quad chair located at the base of Whistler Mountain, is set to begin with the disassembling of the current lift next month. According to Pique News Magazine, the upgrade will bring a high-speed eight person lift to increase uphill capacity during both the ski and mountain biking seasons.
“We plan to begin disassembling Fitz later this month, with construction scheduled to begin shortly thereafter. We will also begin prep work on Jersey this summer, which will expedite installation/construction in 2024.” – Whistler Blackcomb
The Jersey Cream lift will continue to run through the 2023/24 ski season, despite work beginning this summer.
