Believe it or not, but there are four ski areas in the great state of Iowa.

The state’s largest is Sundown Mountain Resort in Dubuque. I traveled down there to check the place out for myself last season.

You can read my article here.

I was impressed by the steeper sections of the upper mountain, the small mogul run towards the bottom, and the palpable vibe I felt as soon as I walked into the ski area’s lodge.

What was even more impressive, is that this little bump near the Mississippi River has its very own Air Bag to give park skiers a safer opportunity to try out some big stunts.

The bag wasn’t open the day I visited, but it looks like our friend Joey Wallis was able to capture a bag session this season in the video below.

Check it out:

Pretty neat, right?

I love that there’s a bustling community of park skiers in Iowa that are pushing themselves thanks to the help of an airbag.

Skiing out west is bigger and better, but don’t forget that there are hundreds of thousands of skiers that only know their local hill.

They’re equally as passionate about skiing, and their stories deserved to be told!
