The Maine Ski and Snowboard Museum, located in Carrabassett Valley, Maine, has received a $5000 grant from the International Skiing History Association (ISHA), according to the Daily Bulldog. The Maine museum is the first of 46 ski history museums worldwide to receive the award, and will be honored in Big Sky, Montana on March 22nd at the ISHA annual banquet.

“Funds will be used towards the development of the Museum’s Hall of Fame collection. The Hall of Fame has recognized over 175 inductees since 2004. This year, video interviews about the inductees will be part of the program, and the interviews will also be included in the reimagined Hall of Fame exhibit.” – Museum Executive Director Kate Barnes

Over 400 individuals attended the museum’s Hall of Fame banquet last year, and more are expected this year. Nominations have already closed for the 2023 Hall of Fame, but nominations for next year can already be submitted. Nominations from previous years include L.L. Bean (the person, not the story), olympian Seth Wescott, and many more.

“This is an exciting time for the Maine Ski and Snowboard Museum. Our move from Kingfield to a larger facility in Carrabassett Valley has created many new opportunities, including our new Recorded History initiative. The support we received from Sugarloaf and the community during the pandemic was remarkable, and being honored by the International Skiing History Association is really a recognition of the spirit of our members and everyone in Franklin County.”

Growing up, I would stop by the Ski and Snowboard Museum every once in a while on the way home from Sugarloaf. Its old Kingfield location was super cool, and I’m glad to see they’ve been able to grow and get into a larger facility. If you’re ever in the area, make sure to check it out. Congrats to the Maine Ski and Snowboard Museum, awesome to see them get some recognition!
