Gnarly inadvertent spectator interaction at a cycling race in Argentina where Fabio Jakobsen got his sunglasses slapped clear off his face just 50 meters from the finish line.

Velo News reports the European champion was competing in the final stage of the Vuelta a San Juan stage race when the incident occurred. Jakobsen was dropping the hammer trying to edge out a win when he collided with an outstretched phone, undoubtedly trying to capture the perfect angle for pick your poison of social networking platform:

“Someone reached out there with a phone. This was partly my own fault, but there was room. I hadn’t seen the hand. I have a cut and it’s a bit thick, but this could have been much worse.” –Fabio Jakobsen

Whoever’s fault it was is kinda beside the point, the situation was inherently dangerous and avoidable. Thankfully Fabio kept upright and wasn’t seriously injured. Hindsight is 20/20 but perhaps a double barrier would have been in order at this bottleneck of a finish line? Momma mia!
