It has been more than four years since Cairngorm Mountain last had its funicular operating. Structural deficiencies led the ski resort in Scotland to shut the lift down for extensive renovations.

The Daily Record reports that they reopened the lift on Thursday. The lift, which originally opened in 2001, required strengthening the viaduct and installing a new control system before it was safe to reopen.

The ride is only five minutes to the top, and shelters riders from the elements. When the funicular was closed, guests had to take multiple surface lifts to reach the summit. The funicular and the restaurant located at the summit are the highest of their kind in the U.K. A video of the reopening day from Visit Cairngorms is below.
